Few people realize that the population of Brazil is 180 million, making it the fifth largest country in the world. Three-quarters live in sprawling cities like Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo, and in hundreds of small towns scattered between Argentina and the Amazon. Only 240,000 (.13%) are tribal. Brazil is the largest Catholic country in the world, and also the largest spiritist country.
Brazilians are warm, friendly people, whose hearts are very open to the things of God. In downtown Rio de Janeiro, or Sao Paulo, large crowds quickly gather in plazas to hear the gospel proclaimed by our evangelists. Christian films in town squares draw people of all ages, who stay to listen to illustrated messages. Local churches provide follow-up, and in some cases, plant churches from those responding.
Over 50% of the population is under the age of 18 years. Assembly programs in public schools expose thousands of students to the message of Christ through dramas, films, and preaching. Many pray to trust Christ and receive our literature that is designed to help them make the right choices in life.
Church teams from the US, coming on 10 day mission trips, greatly help the ministry. The fields are white for harvest in Brazil.
